Our top five competing chess players (and a few more who tagged along for fun) went to face off against Faith Bible Christian Academy (FBCA) on March 2nd. It was a long three hour trip down to Rosamond, IL. Our 2nd – 5th graders faced off against their 8th – 9th graders (their youngest players). Although challenging, our kids showed no fear and were quite impressive. Several won a few victories over their older competitors, including Justin Miller and Micah Oberholz. Overall our school lost the traveling trophy with a score of 12-3, but our own Micah Oberholtz did take home a 3rd place ribbon!
We went home feeling great and had some amazing fellowship as we stopped in to the Christian owned buffet, The Bonanza Steakhouse, in Lincoln, IL. We are learning from our mistakes and very much look forwards to a rematch against FBCA!
Thank you FBCA and Mr. Caleb Wheeler for the opportunity to compete and have fellowship.
Brian Hamiel is the founder of NISCE Institute and has big dreams for it. He has always been one to take leaps of faith that further God’s kingdom. In 2008 he and his wife, Sandi, founded NISCE (Northern Illinois School of Christian Excellence), a school from k3 to high school, and worked hard to run it with just him and his wife. From then till now this godly power couple has started two churches, one school, and one new college, and have gained over five new teachers! They have put in countless hours to keep these ministries excellent and affordable, even in the face of immense trials. Brian is eager and overqualified to start NISCE Institute and can’t wait to see where it will go in the future. 2018 will be NISCE Institute’s first year; but we are as ambitious as we are young! We have a dream of a college that offers full degrees and GED certifications. These are attainable goals if God is the center, and we will be praying that we can reach them. If you can’t take a class or donate we have an even greater way you can help our college: prayer. We would appreciate as much prayer as possible as we try to guide the next generation as they live in a ever-changing world.
NISCE Institute is a college that has one major leg up than all other large Christian colleges. It is a new school and therefore is still fairly small giving our students maximum time with teachers and it is priced to keep you from debt! We offer a rare intimacy with teachers and fellow students that give us a sense of teamwork and unity. Imagine a college where you can get one on one instruction, encouragement from peers, and an in depth discussion, all for a very low cost. This is another rare aspect of our college, we are affordable. Our founder, Brian Hamiel, knows the current economic climate and objects to the common practice of burying students under debt. He tailored NISCE Institute to be affordable for the average worker in Illinois. We won’t burden you with bills, but will give you a valuable education and camaraderie that you can’t find anywhere else. So apply today or contact a staff member and see how far NISCE Institute can take you!
NISCE Institute is founded on Christian principles because our founder, Brian Hamiel, is a Christian and has found that it gives meaning and reference to everything. Our college is dedicated to giving the best education possible and sees
At this year’s spring program the Elementary classes sang and presented several Bible verses that they have been memorizing throughout the year. Our third grade class recited the Gettysburg Address. The Middle and High school levels recited poetry. In addition, each student chose a famous figure in history and made a display for the History Fair. Art and school projects were on display in the hallway. It was an exciting and God honoring night!
Today the students heard a presentation on Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a ministry that brings hope to kids in poverty-stricken countries around the world. OCC is a family focused ministry that allows us to pack up a shoe box with toys, hygiene products, and school supplies and is then delivered to a needy child in another country. Every shoe box comes with the Gospel message and is given in Jesus’ name. Each student brought home information on how they can participate in this ministry.

On September 28th, NISCE students participated in the “See You at the Pole” (SYATP) event. We went out to the flag poles, sang praise to the Lord, and then said the Pledge of Allegiance, to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible. We then took time to have prayer for our school and the nation.
Our nation is going through vast changes and is in need of prayer for the sake of our future generations. This year’s SYATP theme is Psalms 24:3-6.
“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face.” Psalm 24:3-6
We want to be “the generation of those who seek Him.” This country can turn around only “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chr. 7:14)” We at NISCE are instilling in our students to trust in God and let His word be a guide to their footsteps.
